Insurance for Damage Caused by Trees

If a tree falls and hits your home, your homeowners’ policy will probably cover the cost of repairing the damage to your home, whether the tree was on your property or someone else’s. Your homeowners’ policy will likely also cover the cost of removing the tree, depending on the insurer and the type of policy.

If a tree falls on your property without hitting your home (because it falls into your yard and hits the ground, for instance), your homeowners’ policy may not provide coverage. In that case, removal of the tree and any other debris would not be covered. You may still have coverage, though, if the fallen tree is blocking a driveway, roadway, or wheelchair ramp.

If a tree falls on your car, your auto insurance will cover damage to your car.
